(Note that you can use the same basic recipe for pears, peaches, or blueberries.)
Peel the apples. Remove the core and slice the fruit. Put the sliced fruit in a bowl you can bake in (or a pie pan, if you prefer). Sprinkle with about 1 cup regular (or organic) sugar. (You can add a bit of juice or water — maybe ¼ cup, if you think the fruit will be dry.)
Preheat the oven to 350ºF
In a separate bowl, mix equal amounts of (1 cup of each):
- Flour
- Regular or Old Fashion oatmeal (not instant)
- Brown sugar
Add ¼ tsp. salt and 2 tsp. Cinnamon
Using 2 knives cut into the mixture 1 stick of butter, until the butter is pea size.
Spread the mixture over the bowl of sweetened apples.
Bake about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the size of the bowl. The juice of the fruit should be boiling and the apples should be soft.
If you find it isn’t done, put it back into the oven.
